Newsletter - 1st Half Spring Term

07 January 2017

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year and welcome back for the 1st half of the spring term at The Sombornes Pre-School! We hope you all had a lovely Christmas break. This term we would like to offer a warm welcome to Connor Rawlins, Sophie Hughes, Rosie Dinsdale and Robert-James Thornton who have just joined pre-school.

Thank you to all of you for attending our Christmas show – as a result of the raffle we raised £200 for pre-school funds. We have said goodbye to Ali, and she would like to pass on her thanks for the kind gifts and cards that she received before she left. We can now welcome Siobhan who has started working with us this week, and we’re sure she will be a valuable member of the team.

We will be holding parent consultations over the next couple of weeks, giving you an opportunity to look at your child's Learning Journal and giving us a chance to discuss progress, next steps or any issues you may have. We will put a schedule for these meetings next to the signing in book in the entrance hall, so please choose a time that suits you – if you have any problem with the timings, please speak to us and we will do our best to find a convenient time for you.

We have been reviewing our safeguarding policy, particularly around the use of mobile phones, and would politely request that phones are not used within the setting (main hall, jubilee room). We realise that you need to have your phones with you, but if you could only take calls in the entrance hall, and leave phones in your bag or pocket when entering the setting, this will help us to maintain the children's safety – thank you for your co-operation.

Snack time – please bring a portion of fruit or vegetable snack and place it in the bowl provided by the signing in book for every morning session your child attends. We will prepare everything provided, and it is then shared between all the children, giving them a choice of food and a chance to try new things. They will also be offered a choice of milk or water to drink with their snack. We sometimes supply breadsticks or crackers to eat alongside the fruit. If your child attends afternoon sessions, we will provide a drink and biscuit or cracker during the afternoon. If you have any queries or special dietary requirements, please speak to a member of staff.

Can we please request that children are collected promptly at home time (3:15 Tues and Thurs, 1:15 Weds), as we need to clean/tidy and vacate the village hall by 3:30 Tuesdays and Thursdays, or 1:30 on Wednesdays. We do appreciate that sometimes you could be held up in traffic etc., but if you could call to let us know you are running late that would be really helpful – thank you! If they feel it is appropriate, the committee may add an extra charge for continual late collection. Thank you for your understanding with this matter.

With the weather turning colder and wetter, please could we ask that your child has appropriate clothing at pre-school for playing outside and walking to school, such as wellies, warm waterproof coat and gloves/hats/scarves if it gets colder. Could we also ask that all clothing is clearly labelled to make it easier to identify and put back on the right pegs – thank you.

Best Wishes,

Becky, Katie, Diane and Siobhan
